Hi there!
Katie Kim is a violinist who earned her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the University of California, Irvine, where she studied under Haroutune Bedelian and was a recipient of the Robert and Marjorie Rawlins Scholarship. Her previous teachers include Eunhee Kim and Moon Lee. During her time at UCI, she served as concertmaster of the UCI Symphony Orchestra and was the winner of the 2017 UCI Concerto Competition, performing Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto as a featured soloist with the orchestra.
She currently performs with a wide range of ensembles, including Synesthesia Sinfonietta, with whom she appeared alongside Yandel during his Grammy-nominated Sinfónico album tour at the YouTube Theater and Yaamava’ Theater. In addition to her orchestral work, Katie records and performs throughout Orange County and Los Angeles. Her credits include a featured artist appearance on The Sound Scientists albumThe Sound Scientists, as well as performances with Eli’s Band, Pink Mozart, Improvicelli, and VC3, which includes The Cello Doll and Paul Hyun.
Katie has also performed in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and Segerstrom Hall, and has participated in masterclasses with renowned artists such as Peter Zazofsky, Lynn Chang, and Sibbi Bernhardsson.
Beyond performance, Katie is deeply committed to music education. She serves as assistant director and violin coach for the Marina High School orchestra program, is a private violin instructor at Soundscape Music Studios, and maintains her own private studio. She was also a resident advisor for International Music Sessions in 2018, a cultural exchange program led by directors Theresa Kim and Jason Sugata that brings together students from diverse backgrounds through music.
Outside of music, Katie is an avid vinyl collector, film photographer, and weight lifter. She enjoys exploring new creative experiences and collaborating across artistic disciplines.
